Do you know where you want your metal building to be installed? Our installation teams will need enough space to set-up and install your building, and space to access the installation site. One of the most important things to remember is that metal buildings must be installed on a level surface. Do you have enough level space for the size building you need? If you need help getting your space level or pouring concrete, Moore Liberty Buildings can refer you to local contrators we've worked with for years to get the job done right at a fair price. Give us a call! ​ If your ground is sloped don't try and hide that fact or pass it off as "not that bad" during the design process. If you tell us the ground is level and our crew shows up and it's not, it will cause delays and an increase in your cost. Sometimes we can design around sloped ground, (if your building isn't fully enclosed) but we must know what we're dealing with up front. A level surface is always the best option, but sometimes its not practical. In that case we can often accommodate you, just let us know. Just be aware that unlevel sites involve extra labor fees and often extra materials to handle the slope. ​ Install on the ground or gravel/dirt pad: good for cars, tractors, lawn equipment, animal shelters, anything that will be ok if it gets damp. Concrete: If you want a dry storage/work space, put in concrete. A surface of gravel or earth will pull moisture from the ground inside your enclosed space; a concrete floor with a moisture barrier will keep your posessions dry. Hybrid: You can always put part of your structure on concrete and part on gravel/dirt if you have a mixed purpose building such as a carport with an attached storage area. What is certification? Certification means your building is constructed according to pre-engineered plans to receive a 130 MPH wind rating and a snow load rating as well (though this snow rating isn't terribly important here in central Texas). This is not a warranty; its a certification. If you live inside the city limits of your town, chances are you need a building permit. A permit also likely means you have to get it inspected by the local authority. You'll need to get your structure certified to pass inspection. All buildings 26' or more wide or 15' or more tall are certified as part of their design. Certification is an optional upgrade on buildings 12'-24' wide under 15' tall. What does certification add to a structure? You get an anchor (rebar or concrete anchor) next to every leg (instead of every other leg) and --if installing on the ground-- you also get the auger style anchors in addition to the rebar anchors. Leg posts are also placed every 4' apart instead of 5' apart. Roof trusses also get extra welded bracing in 20' and wider models. If you aren't required to get it certified but still want extra hold down power (which we always recommend), we can add the auger style ("mobile home") anchors for just $25 each or rock anchors (for harder ground as is common around here) for $30 each.

Central Texas (west of I-35) and the Hill Coutry is rocky territory. Most places have a thin layer of top soil and then it's either broken limestone or solid rock. If it's broken limestone, the rebar and auger anchors may work just fine. If you know your subsurface ground is solid, the rebar and auger anchors won't work, I don't care what your local carport salesperson says. There's only two choices to secure a building against the wind: ​ Concrete slab or beam: you can either pour a slab or a beam around the perimeter (or along each of the base rails if getting a carport) that is anchored to the rock and then your building will be drilled into the concrete to secure it. Concrete piers: Drill and pour a concrete pier under each corner and under every other leg post. This is less expensive than a whole slab or beams and provides a secure anchoring system. This area of Texas can get some serious storms. While you know you need to protect the roof of your vehicle, and shelter your animals, consider that thunderstorms often drive the rain and hail in a nearly horizontal fashion due to high winds. Your perfect building may include getting a structure that is more enclosed on the sides and end(s) to protect your vehicle and animals. Anchoring structures on concrete slabs, beams or piers is also recommended for high wind areas.
